What Is The Second Step in Revival

26 Jun

If you are a Christian and ever attend prayer meetings am sure you have heard the following prayer or some variant:  ” Lord we just call down Revival on our city, that You would intervene in our city and bring us back to our foundation as a people who live based on Christianity.” Then this is usually followed by some form of encouragement that “Revival always begins with us, the church. We need to look at our lives and how we live or don’t live for Christ and ask God to clean up our areas of weakness.”

We can all agree that the first step in Revival begins with us. Within me. Scripture is FULL of commands to seek holiness. Leviticus 11:44 I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.”  Hebrews 12:14 “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.”

But what happens next? Do we stay there and call down the fires of revival? Beseeching the Lord to invade and win our communities? It seems to me that he bible states “the fields are ripe for harvest, but the workers are few.” Romans 10:13,14 says:  “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”  Lest anyone may misunderstand, if you are a believer, you are a preacher. This doesn’t mean paid pastors. This means anyone who is saved.

Do we wait for the owner of the fields to bring the harvest into the storehouse, or do we go out and begin to gather the harvest by allowing God to use us, and bring the fruits in.

God has spoken clearly to me over the last many months that it is great to pray for Him to intervene. To ask Him to correct the wrongs, to battle in the spiritual realm. But we are stuck in a rut on the first step of revival. We rarely make it to the second step, and that is clearly to go out and be Jesus to people. That doesn’t mean go out and shout on the corner, or hand out tracts at the beach. That means live  a Christlike life among everyone you come in contact with and look for opportunities to plant seeds. Pray when the Lord impresses you to pray for someone. But don’t dare stop there. Do the unexpected by loving someone with your actions not just words. People are impacted by us giving of ourselves. Not telling them they are a sinner and going to hell. Yes, that is a CRUCIAL part of the message. But we as Christians are so much more well known for what we are against rather than what we are for. Jesus told us that they would know us by our love for one another, not our hatred of sin. Lets give the message of hope that yes your sins separate you from God, but it doesn’t need to stay that way.

If we really want to see revival, lets go to step two while we are praying and desiring to see the answer to our prayers fro revival. As we share Jesus, it has an amazing effect of cleaning up our own act as God works through us. John 15:13  “Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”

Lay it down, take baby steps if we must. But we dare not stop on step one of Revival.
